Last night, I made a ‘year cake’ from the rice powder bought in a Chinese grocery store. I boiled the water, melted the sugar, added the rice powder little by little, stirred it slowly, and then steamed it in the rice cooker.

I told myself that I had to make this cake so that on the New Year's Eve, I can tell my Mom and Grand mom that I have a year cake made by myself. Then they will know that I have a happy Chinese New Year here although I am alone and far away from them.

Yes. With this year cake, I will have a happy Chinese New Year although I am alone and far away from my home town.

Happy Chinese New Year to you, and to me.

Dear CC,
Don't know why it's so touched to read this one. Wish you a great dog year!

Two friends joined us for Chinese reunion dinner. I made dumplings (of course with sour-and-spicy soup), cooked a big piece of cod, baked asparagus (as kinda "long-year-vegetable") and prepared taro cakes as desserts(the sweet one). A little one is going to join us this March. I may need your address to send some red eggs to you ohh. :)
